BILL Hour: Why you need to try guacamole.

Here at Reusser Design, we have a bi-weekly event called BILL hour. (BILL, of course, stands for Brilliant Intellectual Lectured Learning) This past week, our designer/front-end developer extraordinaire Aaron Bushnell presented about why you need to try new things.

Okay, it isn’t actually about guacamole. But that tasty avocado dip is a great metaphor for what he did talk about — why you need to try new things to stay innovative, and who knows? You might improve yourself . The worst that can happen is that you don’t like it.

Aaron presented about two new tools for front-end developers he tried: Sass and Compass.

Sass is a new technology that extends basic CSS and operates on the DRY principle (Don’t Repeat Yourself). Not only does it add new styles, rules, variables, etc., but it simplifies your syntax when coding. Check out more about it by visiting their website. If you’re a web developer, or at all interested in CSS, you’ll have fun playing.

Compass is a stylesheet authoring framework. It keeps track of your Compass syntax code, recompiles on-the-fly, and updates the source files across the directory. Remember the DRY principle from earlier? Compass allows you to write one declaration for your gradients and compiles for every needed browser prefix. It’s $7 on their website.

Will we be switching our processes over to Sass? We don’t know. But we’re glad that Aaron is playing around with it. At worst, it’s not for us and he’ll give it up. At best, we’re staying ahead of the curve and learning how to make our coding more efficient.

Matt Lehman Website Launch

District 79 State Representative Matt Lehman needed a website to make him more accessible to the general public. We designed a new site for him to discuss his stance on various issues, publicize events, offer volunteer opportunities, and give people the opportunity to learn more about him and his campaign. We also placed the site in ExpressionEngine, so that Matt could easily edit the site himself to stay current with the latest issues and events.

Fort Wayne Plastics Launches

Fort Wayne Plastics wanted a redesign done for their site that incorporated images with a clean look. We simplified their content with columns to make each page more efficient. The homepage features a jQuery rotating banner of wide images for a bold design and user accessibility.

Indy based Real Estate Company, Correll Commercial, signs for website redesign

Rich Correll, of Correll Commercial Real Estate, signed for a website redesign with Reusser Design. Correll provides Appraisal and Valuation services, Self Storage and Investment Brokerage to the Indianapolis, IN area. This will be the second redesign project this year for us in the Indianapolis market and we’re looking forward to continuing to offer our services there and throughout the state.

This project is set to go live late summer so check back and to see the finished result.

Shambaugh Dentistry signs with Reusser Design

Dr. Jeffrey Shambaugh has chosen Reusser Design to develop his website. In addition to the first website for the company, Dr. Shambaugh will be taking advantage of Reusser’s graphic design capabilities to design a new logo, as well as stationary, envelope and business cards.

Look for this website to launch in mid-summer. This will be the second dental website that Reusser Design will launch this summer. Dr. James Taylor and Associates (of Decatur, IN) will also be online in the near future.

RD launches website for Indianapolis Fitness Company

Yesterday, we launched the website for Fitness by Design, based out of Indianapolis, IN. This is a high-class fitness company, with a matching website! The site boasts a great design with very informational information integrated throughout. Not to mention, we are NOT done. Check back in the next week or so and you will see a Flash intro, rotating header and a blog that will allow this client to post videos and workout information at any time!

Reusser Design launches website for BKB Manufacturing

Manufacturing websites are becoming quite an expertise for Reusser Design lately. And now, we add BKB Manufacturing to the portfolio. BKB took advantage is a small website, with big features. A great design, on 5 pages of content, contact form, and just enough Flash animation to keep it interesting. BKB also chose to integrate a Content Management System in order to make small updates themselves.

Leadership Fort Wayne signs with Reusser Design

We are very excited to announce the we will be developing a new website for Leadership Fort Wayne. This is a great organization that has done a lot for the city of Fort Wayne. The new website will boast many features, including a file management system, blog-style news feed, gallery for photographs and a community calendar as well as a lot of useful information for potential students, alumni and the community. Users will also be able to make tuition payments online. Look for this website to launch later this Spring.
